Charities

The Parachute Regiment Afghanistan Trust
The Afghanistan Trust exists to help support soldiers who served with The Parachute Regiment in Afghanistan who have been wounded or killed as a Consequence, and their families. The Trust gained charitable status in November 2007 (registered charity number 1121647) and since then has made many donations to injured soldiers including help with mobility, training and equipment for future employment; accommodation and transport costs for families to visit the wounded and for the bereaved to attend to attend remembrance services.
The Lewy Body Society
The Lewy Body Society , established in June 2006 in the UK, is the only charity in Europe exclusively concerned with Dementia with Lewy bodies. The charity's mission is to raise awareness of DLB for the general public and educate those in the medical profession and decision making positions about all aspects of the disease and to support research into the disease.

A 20 strong team will attempt to cycle across 500 miles, through France, Belgium and the Netherlands in just 7 days.

We will be starting at Pegases Bridge in Ranville, Normandy, France. This is where the Ox and Bucks Parachute Regiment were involved in the very first military action in the Liberation of Europe on the 6th June 1944, some 6 hours prior to the Normandy landings. Under Major John Howard, they took and held the bridge until relieved on this day of days.

From here we travel across France and Belgium arriving after six days at Leopoldsburg in Belgium. This was the headquarters of Lt General Horrocks and the launch point of ground forces for Operation Market Garden. From here we will travel the route taken by XXX corps before arriving at Arnhem Bridge, Arnhem, Holland.

Arnhem Bridge is famously the 'Bridge to Far' and a place fixed in history for the Parachute regiment. Out of the 10,000 paras that took part an estimated 8000 were killed, wounded or captured during this disasterous campaign.
