Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We’ve saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and survival has doubled over the past 40 years. We fund research into more than 200 types of cancer from the most common, such as breast, bowel, lung and prostate cancers, to rare types of tumours and children’s cancers, we support groundbreaking science that benefits everyone.
Help for Heroes
Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007. Bryn and Emma met some extraordinarily brave young people who had been badly wounded and they just wanted to do something to help. "It’s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."
The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust
Founded by his family to commemorate Charlie Waller, CWMT aims to raise awareness of the nature and dangers of depression, reduce stigma, provide training to primary care staff and encourage those who may be depressed to seek help. Please see for further details.
Oracle Cancer Trust
Oracle Cancer Trust is the UK's leading charity dedicated to funding head and neck cancer research. Oracle focuses its funding on early-stage proof-of-concept projects, laying the scientific and technical foundations for the development of new treatments for patients. In the UK, less than 2% of research monies from the major cancer research funders goes towards tackling one of the fastest growing cancer types in the UK. Head and neck cancer is now the sixth commonest cancer in the UK and is showing a particularly significant increase in cases in the under 50's age group. Thanks to research directly funded by Oracle, patients are receiving new treatments and experiencing fewer side effects. The team behind Oracle involves some of the world's leading authorities on ENT cancer surgery and oncology, with the majority of Oracle's funded research based at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, London, and the Institute of Cancer Research. Oracle is currently funding ten pioneering head and neck cancer research projects. We want to increase this to 18 by the end of 2019. Help us to make our next ground-breaking discovery.
