Return to Virgin London Marathon – Unfinished Business.....

Having thrown my trainers to the back of the wardrobe in 2011, I have dusted them off and ready to take on this rollercoaster journey again 5 years on with The Wilberforce Trust having secured a charity place for 2017.

Those who know me will tell you I’m a passionate advocate for raising the profile of the Trust and in turn increasing our followers and supporters. As a person there is nothing I love more than a challenge and running the London Marathon for such a fantastic cause gives me the opportunity to tick all boxes.

So what convinced me to take the plunge in 2017?

As a member of staff of the Trust, I was personally moved by the plight of Ethel and Tom, a couple in their 80s with limited means. Because Ethel had to attend a 10 minute hospital follow up appointment and there was no public transport on the day, they had to pay for overnight accommodation in York to enable her to attend. The appointment was not available in her local area. As a busy person used to being connected and in touch I find this shocking and they are not alone.

Wilberforce Trust provides services to people in York and North Yorkshire who struggle through sight loss, helping them remain as independent as possible.

We are raising money for a Mobile Eye Unit to take eye health services to remote areas of North Yorkshire where public transport is very poor and people without cars struggle even to get to basic essential services.

Please support me to help others coping with the varying degrees of sight loss not only in York itself but also those in the wider communities of North Yorkshire with no access to basic eye health services.

Feel free to follow my training and traumas over the coming months on my lead up to this amazing event. You can follow my progress on the Wilberforce Trust Facebook and Twitter pages.

Thank you for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities.
