Percy Pedals America

Fundraiser:
Will Percival

I will be jumping on my bike to cycle over 4,000 miles across America to raise money for the mental health charity Mind and in memory of my dear friend George, who had dreamt of making the journey himself. My adventure will take me from the Pacific to the Atlantic, will require me to tackle over 180,000 ft of elevation and take over two months to complete.

From the time he spent on the rugby field to the hours he dedicated to becoming the next big DJ, George was always one for pushing the boundaries in whatever he did. Sitting in our College bar in Durham, in what turned out to be one of our final conversations, George told me how he had hatched a plan to cycle across America during the upcoming Summer.

Before he was able to make his dream a reality, George lost his battle with depression. George had suffered with the mental illness for over a year, following the death of his mother Vicki, and losing him shook all of our lives. He was one of the kindest and most genuine people you could ever meet and by completing the cycle I can only hope that I would have made him proud.

Mental health problems such as depression still aren't spoken about enough, particularly amongst young men, and so the advice and support that Mind provide is invaluable.

Please donate generously to this fantastic cause and to help those suffering from mental health problems. I will be self funding this fittingly ambitious trip and so all of your donations will go directly to Mind. My aim is to raise £1 for every mile cycled and so your donations will make all those long hours in the saddle worthwhile!
