Charities

Great Ormond Street Hospital Childrens Charity
Every year we need to raise over £50 million to help replace cramped, outdated wards with new modern facilities, provide essential equipment and fund essential research to find treatments and cures for complex and difficult illnesses. Amazing things happen at Great Ormond Street Hospital every day. With your help we can keep the magic alive for the thousands of children and their families who need our help.
The Princes Charities Foundation
The Prince’s Charities Foundation is a grant-making charity which supports a wide range of causes and projects by making charitable donations. The Foundation receives an ever-increasing number of requests for assistance. Donations are made to an extensive variety of causes working with environmental issues, health and hospices, community and welfare, education, heritage, the built environment and charities supporting servicemen and women.

UPDATE - 04 Oct

On the 2nd October I set off from Dover harbour to make the 35km journey to Cap Griz Nez, a rocky outcrop, appended to the French coastline near to Calais. The sea was calm with minimal wind and so I knew that conditions would be conducive to a fast time. I was supported by two boats filled with Huntswood colleagues, my parents and the former record holder, Ian Wynne. The cheers of support motivated me to keep going especially as I tired towards the end. There were a number of tankers and ferries that had to be navigated around during the journey but they waves that created proved to be quite good fun and break up some of the monotony.

In the end I managed to beat the existing record for a solo crossing by 31 minutes and even managed to eclipse the two-man record, by breaking it by 15seconds, in a time of 2hours 28 minutes exactly. What is even more encouraging is the support that I received in the build-up to the challenge and the enormous amount of money raised for Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Prince’s Charities. However we are still not quite at our target and so I encourage you to dig deep and please donate as we leave the donation pot open for another month.

Thank you,

Paul

My name is Paul Wycherley and I am international kayaker training between 4-6 hours a day, 6 days a week, in preparation for the London 2012 Olympics. I have represented Great Britain at many international competitions and was Junior Marathon World Champion in 2004 as well as having won many national titles.

Throughout my career I recognise that I have benefitted from opportunities made available to me and support from others around me. It is my belief that all people should be given the opportunity and support to allow them to shine. So now it is my time to give something back.

I want to use my skill to help and inspire others. That is why I am going to make a World Record attempt for kayaking across the channel from Dover to Calais on the 2nd October for two charities that are close to my heart. The Prince’s Charities and Great Ormond Street are excellent charities that support and nurture people.

After a chance meeting with David Brownlow, CEO of Huntswood, the Cross Channel Challenge attempt was made possible when Huntswood agreed to back my attempt by covering all costs. This means that every penny raised goes to the charities!!

Please may I ask you to sponsor my efforts and support these two great charities by donating through this fundraiser page.

Thank you
