Virgin Money store colleagues take on 220 mile charity challenge for Cancer Research UK
7 June 2013
- Charity events to be held at Virgin Money Derby Store on 11 & 12 June
Staff at the Virgin Money Store in Derby will be taking on a two day cycling and rowing challenge as well as holding beauty days throughout June to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The Virgin Money Store team of 4 people will be jumping on a static exercise bike to cycle 200 miles – the equivalent of cycling from Derby to Dover - and then rowing the distance of the English Channel, approximately 20 miles. The exercise bike and rowing machine have been loaned by the nearby Virgin Active gym.
Throughout June, customers will also be able to take advantage of a qualified beautician in the Store. On offer will be a selection of beauty treatments including facials, manicures and makeovers in return for donations to Cancer Research UK.
The fundraising is part of a nationwide initiative from Virgin Money. All 75 Virgin Money Stores will be holding events for their local community to raise funds for local charities.
Wayne Athey, Store Manager at Virgin Money in Derby said: “We are excited, if a little nervous about taking on the cycling and rowing challenge. 220 miles is a long way. We are also looking forward to welcoming our customers, their friends and families into our store throughout June for the beauty therapy event. Both days will be a fun way to raise funds for an excellent cause. Cancer Research UK does fantastic work and we hope to raise as much as possible.”,
Wayne added: “Online giving is an easy way for people to make donations and people can find out more and donate at www.virginmoneygiving.com/Derby-VMStore.”
