As a charity web manager, I want to be able to link directly to the page where our supporters can sign up for our events and pay the registration fees. But I can't. I can link to the event page, but then the user is pushed back through the search screens to find the event. Yes, it prefills the fields for the search, but why have a search if they have already found the information? This is going to put a lot of people off.

What I want is a big fat 'Join our event' or 'Register for this event' from the event page on our charity 'home page' on Virgin Money Giving, which then skips to the registration page.

I can then promote this link all over our online systems.

At the moment, it's far too complicated, and I won't be using it - as it needs to be as simple as possible to sign up. Back to the drawing board, to develop my own form and payment process.

Hi Chris

Thanks for your feedback, that's a really good suggestion and I've passed it onto our IT team to look into.

It is possible to create direct links to your charity events which are listed on Virgin Money Giving and add them to your own web-site, or any emails you send out.

To create a link directly to an event you just need the event ID and a URL. The easiest way to get the event ID is to view the event page from your charity mini site, for example for your 'Seasonal Circuit' event the address for this page is:

http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charity-web/charity/displayEventDetails.action?eventId=343&invocation=evt0050&charityId=1000501

In this case the event ID is 343, to create a direct link to the start fundraising process, just add the event ID to the following website address.

http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/fundraiserEventsDeepLink.action?eventId=343

Now you can use this address to create a link that will take a visitor directly to the event where they can start creating a fundraising page:

If you have any more comments or suggestions we'd love to hear from you, you can email feedback@virginmoneygiving.com or post here on the forum

Hi,

I've just discovered Virgin Money and excited that finally there is a genuine non-profit competitor to all of the profit making companies (justgiving etc) in this sector. The benefits through reduced fees are clear!

I help run a charity on the technical side and I've got a few concerns about the site, this issue of urls being one of them. URLs really shouldn't be this long! You can rewrite URLs to be much neater than they are, and the links above are absurdly long.

Your example above of:
http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charity-web/charity/displayEventDetails.action?eventId=343&invocation=evt0050&charityId=1000501

with a simple server side rewrite could be something neat like:
http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/event/343

Similarly, when I visit my fundraising page (only set up for testing purposes and to get me access to this forum!) I enter the url:
http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/StephenEdwards

but I end up at this horrendous URL:
http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=StephenEdwards

The same applies here, and is even more important because this is the url that most users will see and copy and paste to send to their friends etc.

Hope this helps,

Stephen

Hi Stephen

Welcome to Virgin Money Giving and thanks for your feedback.

Shortening the URL’s for charity and fundraising pages on Virgin Money Giving is something we are very keen to address. We know how important this is and we hope to include this in a future release of the web-site.

If you have any other questions about registering your charity with us our team are here to help, you can contact them via theteam@virginmoneygiving.com or call them on 08456 10 10 45.

I would love to see this improved.

When are Events not Events? - We made the mistake of trying to sell tickets to our Charities Launch event by setting up an Event in VMG. After complaints, we investigated the matter and following a call to the Team at VMG it is clear that the Events facility is not intended for this use.

In the short term, it would be good if you could update your help guides to clarify the use of the Events feature.

We’ve had to resort to using PayPal as a backup plan.

Also, if you could shorten the URL’s that would help. We’ve struggled to promote the page (clearly indicated by the total lack of donations) as the current URL is far too long to quote in press releases, in advertising material etc.

Hi Simon

There are ways your address can be shortened. for example you don't need the "http://uk." part of the address.

Looking at your charity account your the address for your charity page is "http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charities/hartleburycastletrust" which will still work correctly if used as "virginmoneygiving.com/charities/hartleburycastletrust".

If you would like the charity name part of the page address shortened or abbreviated to something else our charity help desk team can do this for you.

Several fundraisers have set up thier own virgin money page and allocated us as one of the charities they are raising money for. I would like to show a link to thier pages directly from our Charity's Virgin page. Can I do that?

Hi Helen

You can indeed.

When you're signed into your charity account you'll see an option on the left menu for 'charity page'. From here you can add an additional page to your charity site on Virgin Money Giving.

You could for example create page called 'Our Fundraisers' and on this page list the names, events, and fundraising page links of the people currently raising money for your charity.

There are some guides here that can help, and our charity help desk team are on hand if you'd like them to talk you through adding a page.
