I have had several people email me saying when they click my sponsorship link the security certificate is flagged as not coming from the same site that they are on so is unsecured. Is this a common feature?

What can I do to make it safe for people to sponsor me? I feel I have lost sponsorship money as people click, get the security message then don't bother to go through with the transaction as they feel putting their credit card details is unsafe.

Also the charity will lose out on any offline donations as this won't include Gift Aid.

Hi Daniella

Thanks for your question.

We take the security of our website very seriously, especially donor information and the making of payments through Virgin Money Giving.

To both secure the information that's entered into our website, and validate that the site you're using is genuine we have a 'Class 3 Extended Validation' certificate from Verisign. In modern web browsers you'll see this by the usual padlock, and the address bar will go green to confirm the site is secure. I've included below some screen shots to show how this looks in the most popular web browsers.

Firefox:

Internet Explorer:

Google Chrome:

I checked your fundraising page this morning, and followed on to the donation process and everything is looking correct from here. It would help to know where you're linking to your donation page from such as an email, facebook/twitter, or website/blog and which link you're using and we can investigate further.
