Messages from donors

I just found out from your call centre that if donors opt to leave a message for the charity, this message is by default not made available to the charity in any of the online reports. The charity only gets these messages if it specifically asks the call centre about this, in which case the messages are e-mail and password protected.

I have two suggestions about this. Firstly, you need to make charities aware that they only get these messages if they specifically ask you. Otherwise, donors might leave important messages and would naturally assume that the charity will get this message, whereas in many cases the charity will be blissfully unaware that there is a message. In some cases, the donor might be upset that the charity has not responded to their message and might withhold future donations that they would otherwise have made.

Secondly, why can't the messages be made available through the normal reporting, which can only be accessed by someone who has authorisation to sign in to the charity account? This would be much more helpful than a weekly e-mail with a password protected file attached.

This site isn't quite fit for purpose

I set up an account and created a page. After I'd made the page, I noticed that its URL was given on the Amend Page form as:
http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/null
and on the Promote Page form as:
http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/(PAGE_URL)
neither of which is valid, of course.

I made a second page, in the process of which I was asked to choose a URL. It worked better. Then I had to close the first page in order to get everything to work how I wanted. If I wasn't a Web developer myself I might not have spotted the above problems, which would have made my fund-raising efforts useless. And even if I had seen them I would have given up much faster.

Also, once I had multiple pages, choosing to edit one page sometimes displayed info from the other.

The whole thing feels half-finished. Do I want people who can't put together a working Web site to be handling my money? Not really. I'll go back to justgiving.com next time.

Unable to see my donations

I have donors telling me they have sposnored me but then it does not show on my page.

When I emailed the virgin team they just told me flippantly oh well its one of those things and happens all the time as there is a button for people to donate direct.

If I can't track who has sponsored me I dont know the total donations as it is not shown on my page and so my company that would match the total contributions will not see the total and so ultimately the charity misses out on funding and Virgin dont care and send emails saying 'oh well'.

If a charity is missing out on money because there site can not track donations they should be very disappointed in themselves and the fact they are not really able to deliver on the service they offer.

Very upsetting that we cant seem to give the charity all the money they would be entitled to!

unimpressed

For a media company so large, it's pretty ridiculous how poor and unintuitive the interface is. Having to download software in order to upload photos is ridiculous. Trying to get the captions to appear as they do on Picasa in the photo gallery is ridiculous. And trying to get the photos to even appear at all at times is ridiculous.
The login system is unnecessarily lengthy (why not just username and password?!?), navigating the pages is difficult, there aren't even links to do very simple things like PREVIEW THE PAGE. It's ALL A BIT RIDICULOUS. And very frustrating.

TERRIBLE!

 This has been a really bad experience for me and it is no wonder why your service is free!

I have been trying to raise money for my charity as they swear by you because you are cheaper then just giving........and no wonder!

I have set up a page and it clearly says its active but none of my friends can find my page in search so how are they to sponsor me??????

I have tried adding it to facebook and that does not work either.

My charity is missing out on funds and I seem to have wasted my time for the past two nights working on my charity page.

helpline times - as per the normal usual office hours, which is when i work and dont have internet access!

What I think - Improvements required

I am delighted Virgin offer this service, it's great value, but the website really frustrates me.

The reporting system is far too complex. I'm very computer literate and have mastered it but heaven help anyone who isn't computer literate.

The forum desperately needs a search, then people could get answers. I don't want to be searching through every post to see if someone has posted the answer to my questions.

I would like to log into the control panel and get an account overview like PayPal provides. I want to see at a glance who has donated recently and how much. These bar charts are worse than useless in my humble opinion.

On the plus side the support is excellent I can't fault the team. I have never had a support system where people will actually take the time to call and help. So a big thumbs up to the team.

This is a good service but it could be fantastic!

Gillian

Interested in views

I'm intrigued to know what people here think of the BBC article over the weekend which looked a lot like a reprint of a VMG press release. For those who haven't seen it the URL is http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11654649

Does anyone here use JustGiving or other sites as well?
Does anyone here use VMG because of the fees difference?
If not, why do you use VMG instead of other sites?
(You can answer "charity told me to" or "don't care" if you like, I'm not judging)
What features on the VMG site appeal to you?
What features from other sites would you like to see here?

VMG as a payment system

Hi,

We would like to use an online payment system for selling items via our website, such as charity wristbands, xmas cards etc. Thsi strikes me as somehtign which could be relatively easy for your site to do, and would increase your payment handling whilst keeping costs down.

I know you are looking at Paypal, is this something which could be on your radar?

Event Search Engine

Hi

I have added a run (Parkinson's 10K Spooky Sprint)that we are holding in Ocotber to the search engine under Events so that our supporters are able to it similar to the London Marathon link.

However, I'm having problems with the search engine. When I type in the Parkinson's 10K, Parkinson's or Parkinsons, it says no results. But if I type Spooky, Spooky Sprint or Sprint, it shows the event.

I have also noticed that when I type Parkinson's, it removes the apostrophe and I think that this is why I can't search for it.

If someone can look into this for me and I don't understand why this shouldn't be working!

Thanks
Maria

Thoroughly unimpressed by Virgin

More than 5 weeks have elapsed since I registered my charity with Virgin Money Giving and we are still unable to enable supporters to set up their sponsor pages. Our event is now imminent and I really regret changing from Justgiving to VMG. 2 weeks ago, when I expressed my displeasure in a phone call to VMG and asked for a refund of our registration fee, I was told that everything would be hurried up but there is still no progress. Charities thinking of registering with VMG : BE WARNED!

Website widget / thermometer

We would love to be able to highlight the current fundraising total of any particular fundraising page on our website. We think this will encourage people to donate more than simply putting a static Virgin Money Giving logo. Justgiving offer this and I'm wondering if it's something Virgin Money Giving would consider too?

Thanks for the fantastic service! Matt

Fundraising notifications - URL doesn't work

Hi,

We have set notifications up to receive an email when a fundraiser reaches £500 and £1000. These now come through every time the person receives a donation, when it would be good if it was just a one of notification as our inbox's are getting rather full!

The URL in the notification email that is meant to link to their pages also doesn't work which means going back to the home page and searching for their page to view it which is time consuming.

Any chance these couple of things can be sorted out?

Thanks,

Rachael
Mind Events Team

Flexible Reports exported to Excel

I need to export the payment reports to Excel to analyse. The format of the flexible reports when exported to Excel is very messy - data does not line up correctly and has to be realigned -very time-consuming if and when we have many donations There are also irritating symbols in front of all the currency fields and the column layout is very peculiar making it difficult to adjust column widths to accommodate headings. Is anyone else experiencing these problems?
