St Michael's Fundraising for Luanda 2020
Why we need your help
KARIBU TO KENYA!
ST MICHAELS PARTNERSHIP WITH LUANDA PARISH, KENYA
St Michaels Catholic Grammar School has formed a partnership with the Mill Hill Missionary parish of Luanda in Western Kenya. In particular we will be working with five projects:
- Ebukuya Primary School for the Hearing Impaired
- Ebukuya Secondary School for the Hearing Impaired
- Ebukuya Primary School
- Ebukhuliti Primary School
- St.Bakhita's Secondary School for Girls
- St Josephs Street Childrens Project
- St Beatrice EDC Nursery School
The aim of this partnership is to foster a sense of mutual learning and global responsibility. We hope that as a result of this partnership the curriculum for all the pupils involved will become enriched by the process of learning with, through and from another culture.
In order to achieve this, we need to ensure that the pupils in Kenya have an improved learning environment. For many, school is of the greatest importance, not just for the only hot meal they may receive that day, but also for the future prospects education provides. In July 2020, ten Year 13 students and four members of staff will be travelling to Luanda to work with the schools for two weeks. We intend to provide a respite for a very short period for the staff teaching classes of up to 60. In the past the money raised has been donated towards buying resources, building toilet facilities, buying projectors and training for teachers as well as furnishing schools libraries. We will also be learning from the institutions in Luanda, and planning joint learning projects that can begin in the academic year 2020-21.
We are grateful for all donations which will help us to achieve these aims.
