Buy a Tree
Why we need your help
The recent flooding in The Kasese and Customs area of Uganda, during the coronavirus pandemic, has emphasised the need to replant trees. Houses have been washed away during lockdown leaving people homeless and crops ready for harvest have been swept away when the need for food is greatest.
In the Rwenzori Mountains people grow crops on steep mountain sides. These crops are the only means of feeding their families. People have cut down large numbers of trees to farm this land and to provide firewood. This activity has exposed the soil and, coupled with climate change and heavier rainfall, the soil has been eroded. There have been terrible mudslides which have destroyed land, homes and killed people. Families have been displaced and are moving into towns to get work and survive.
William says, "7 people have been killed in this rainy season. We need to protect our hills with trees."
Amaha We Uganda is trying to redress this problem by planting tree nurseries, beginning in our own Garden of Eden. We have also started the first of three satellite tree nurseries at The Good Samaritan in Kajwenge.
Further tree nurseries will be started very soon.
You can help by donating £5.00 to fund 5 trees and help this vitally important project grow.
Buying trees in this way make wonderful gifts for Christmas and birthdays.
Why not also consider donating to this project and offsetting your carbon footprint too.
