Canon Slade School Support for Sports
Why we need your help
The Governing Body at Canon Slade have supported the out of school transport costs associated with competing in sporting events at both a local and national level for a number of years. Last year the school directed almost £17,000 to pay for coaches and accommodation to enable the school teams to participate. Unfortunately, most parents will be aware that schools, like many public services are operating in a tough financial climate and as such we have been forced to reduce the amount of funding which can be directed to these costs to £5500. For the PE department this means that unless additional funds can be raised, choices will have to be made about which events the school teams can attend.
As a school, we understand that for some parents and students this will be disappointing news but I hope that you will recognise that we are only in receipt of government funding and we must ensure that we deliver the best for our pupils within that funding. Those of you who have already had pupils here at Canon Slade will know the pride we take in our young peoples’ sporting successes. We are keen for all pupils to continue to have these opportunities and the staff are willing to continue to invest their free time in preparing pupils for fixtures and hold regular practises as well as accompanying the pupils to competitions. In 2018 the school was ranked in the top 20 state schools nationally.
If you would like to support us in continuing our outstanding record for national excellence from our sports teams, please donate on this Virgin Money Giving page. As the Canon Slade Trust is a registered charity, the Trust takes full advantage of the Inland Revenue's Gift Aid Scheme which enhanses the value of donations by up to 25%, so thats £1.25 for every £1 donated where applicable. Of course, we will also be fund-raising in school, however that alone cannot raise the funds needed and your contributions would make all the difference.
Previous students have had fantastic opportunities and experiences through their involvement in school sport at all levels; We very much want our current pupils – your son or daughter, to have the same opportunities.
