Susanne Beer and the London Philharmonic Orchestra
Susanne was born in Passau, Bavaria into a family of musicians. After studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and William Pleeth in London, she joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra as co-principal cello, a position she held for almost 20 years. Her first performance was playing continuo cello on the legendary Georg Solti recording of Don Giovanni; and it was indeed her continuo playing which made her such a recognisable feature of Glyndebourne. After leaving the Orchestra in 2012, Susanne founded 'The Cello Corner', a teaching studio in Islington which inspired and trained over 60 young cellists, many to a high level, winning prizes at the North London Festival and places in the National Chamber Orchestra. Sadly, Susanne passed away in December 2019 after a long battle with Melanoma.
Given Susanne’s long association with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra is pleased to act as an agent to collect funds towards the Foundation which will be transferred along with Gift Aid once the Foundation’s registration with HMRC has been completed.

I have enjoyed many of the 60 minute concerts and the performances by the young artists at the beginning of the concerts and I would like to help the foundation in a small way. Please could you send me a Gift Aid form. My email: annahodgson@ukgateway.net

We are glad to have had Susi as our daughter in-law in our lives. She was always positive and enjoyed her life in what she was doing. May the Cello Foundation which she set up for young musicians go from strength to strength. Rest in Peace dear Susi.
