Sarah's head shave for two good causes

Sarah's head shave for two good causes

Why we need your help

In June 2019 a very dear friend of mine, Dina, was diagnosed with bone cancer. Since then (as well as chronic pain from 5 collapsed vertebrae and 3 fractured vertebrae which are not healing) she has endured six months of Chemotherapy every Wednesday except for a month off over Christmas. Now she is embarking on a new chapter... following another course of Chemotherapy to promote cell growth Dina had her Stem Cells harvested and will have them transplanted in February. Prior to this she will have to have a really invasive course of Chemo to totally wipe out her immune system. Besides making her feel extremely rough she will also loose her hair. This bout of treatment will be very demanding and draining both pysically and mentally as it will involve at least a month maybe two months in hospital with a majority of that time in isolation.

So on Wednesday 26th January I had my hair cut and donated four, 15 inch plaits  to the "Little Princess Trust". Last year they provided 1,200 FREE real hair wigs to children suffering from hair loss due to illness. A very sobering thought, but just think how many children now feel "normal", content to appear out with their friends and have a smile on their faces.

As well as donating my hair to this very worthy charity and raising awareness of them, I decided, as an act of solidarity with Dina to have my head shaved as well. Due to the high doses of steroids I was advised not to go back to the scalp as planned so I am now sporting a very trendy number 1 all over.

I am hoping to raise money to get Dina and her husband out to Lourdes with the diocese in July.

Dina has been so brave and stoic throughout this ordeal and credits her progress throughout her treatment  to Our lady and all the prayers and rosaries that are being said for her.

Please help me, help this very, very, brave lady.

Obviously if we exceed the total needed for Dina and Axel, any extra monies raised will go towards helping other assisted pilgrims get out to this very special and inspiring place either this year or in future years.

THANK YOU!
