OSCAR SOS Covid-19

Why we need your help

SOS from the OSCAR family

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to sweep across the globe our thoughts are with the vulnerable communities in the densely populated slums in Mumbai, who are once again on a lockdown. The rise in daily Covid cases in India is alarming. The reality of life in a slum is eight or more family members sharing one room houses with no running water or sanitation. Due to lack of space families frequently have to sleep in shifts. An inadequate number of public toilets and with water only available from a single communal tap, social distancing is impossible.

Many daily wage earners have once again lost their jobs and with it the ability to provide basic food for their families. A challenging life has become unbelievable tough.

To date the OSCAR team has supplied over 2,500 families with a total of 33,000 kgs of basic food provisions, but the need continues. OSCAR is now focussing on supporting those living on the street.

Schools are closed and OSCAR children need access to computers. With your support we have opened Digital Learning Centres to ensure our children are not at risk of dropping out of school. We need to do more.

A heartfelt thank you for helping us continue to support our children, their families and the wider community.

A £15 donation will provide basic provisions of rice, dhal, tea, oil, sugar and hand soap for a family of five for fifteen days.

Donating to the OSCAR Covid 19 appeal will ensure hungry families receive food and the OSCAR team is mobilised to help.

It's really heartbreaking to read and hear about the devastating effect Covid-19 is having on the people of India. Sending our love and a small token.
