COVID-19 Survival Food Packs

Why we need your help

The Sri Lankan Government has asked for The Dust Project's Aid, in helping them provide and distribute dry rations of food to thousands of impoverished families in the Jaffna Peninsula, northern Sri Lanka, and in the south, around Colombo.

The main economy in both of our support areas is comprised of day-workers — farmers, fishermen, builders and labourers.  If they're able to work for the day, they get paid for the day, and their family eats that day.  If they're not able to work, they're not able to eat.

There are tens of thousands of families in need of this aid in Jaffna and the surrounding rural areas; and after flooding and the disastrous wreck of the X-Press Pearl polluting the sea around Wattala (Colombo), our local fishermen and flooded families are beyond struggling... some are in crisis.  The Dust Project (and our sister charity, The Paalam Project) are working with government agencies to provide packages of rice, dhal and green gram, which should last an average family one week, for the price of 2,000 Rupees per family pack.

This works out to be around £7.30 - to feed a family for a week - during these impossibly difficult times of lockdown in Sri Lanka.

All donations (of any amount) will go directly to this fund, so that our emergency workers can begin to distribute food packs to families in desperate need.

A very heartfelt thank you, from all of us here at The Dust Project.
