Covid-19

Why we need your help

Over an amazingly short period of time our priorities as a charity have changed and we find ourselves in very strange times.

Our valiant support staff deserve our sincere and grateful thanks and congratulations for stepping up to the challenge with such determination and grit at a time when they face their own challenges at home.

Here’s what they have to say about their experiences so far:

“I think it's a challenge for the staff to keep themselves motivated with the contact with tenants been restricted. Ensuring the tenants are well is the priority so providing food and drink served to them in their rooms and ensuring medication has been administered at the right times has been of high importance. Spending time in the garden one tenant at a time has probably been the highlight of the day, as the weather has been kind to us.?” (NH)

“These are challenging times for the staff support teams because our tenants get used to a normal routine and when that is disrupted they find it difficult and not all of them are able to understand what is happening in the wider world.  As staff, we know our tenants, so are able to tailor activities to suit them and it has been working really well.

‘Team T’ have pulled together and we are supporting each other. Everyone has their own anxieties at the moment and we all have good days and bad days and we look after each other.  Everyone is prepared to go the extra mile to support each other and our tenants.

During the current lockdown, many of our normal activities are suspended, so in order keep our tenants occupied we are trying to be creative in our activities with them including:

Al Fresco Dining – We eat in the garden when we can, and have BBQ’s too.

Pamper Days – For the girls mainly, we are dyeing hair, doing manicures and painting toenails, face masks etc like mini Spa Days.

Crafts – making cards, colouring and being creative (making a mess!)” (JR)

New priorities/costs in these challenging times include:

  • Preserving our tenants' mental health as well as their physical health by thinking up new and engaging ideas to keep them entertained in their own homes.
  • Keeping them safe as many are choosing to stay in their own rooms as social distancing from support staff who are coming to work and returning home each day.
  • Accelerated costs caused through recruiting, training and supporting new staff to cover absences caused through existing staff sickness and those who are self -isolating and shielding.
  • Additional costs of extra PPE made necessary to protect tenants from Covid-19.
We need your help with these unforeseen costs. Please donate what you can, if you can. Please give.
