Everesting for Young Hearts
Why we need your help
Update - Everesting Success
On 11 July I completed my Everesting challenge.
I completed it in 12 hours 48 minutes - a New Scottih Record for Everesting.
It was tough, but it was worth it. It brought people together on the day to ride and to cheer, and I am overwhelmed by and hugely grateful to everyone that has supported and donated so far.
Please help me to reach my target..we are getting there..
Billy Bilsland Cycles donated a signed top from Giro D'Italia winner Ivan Basso. Its available to bid for with proceeds going to this charity.

----------
My name is Fiona Cockburn, and I've chosen a cycling challenge to raise money for charities supporting children and young adults with congenital heart defects.
I see cycling and the cycling community as an enabler for so many - for phyiscal and mental well being - and as a force for good.
My family have benefitted from these charities. Saying thank you and giving back so they can support others is my motivation for this event.
The Edrington Epic challenge
My employer Edrington supports employee fundraising through its Epic Charity Cycles which have raised over $3m since 2015. Edrington's Giving More International Charity facilitates this, collecting funds raised for onward donation to chosen charities.
Whilst 2020 has impacted our ability to fund raise through these Epic regional group rides, charities need our support more than ever.
Therefore, adapting to the spirit of the times, I've decided to undertake an Everesting - a solo Epic riding charity challenge
What is Everesting?
You cycle the height of Everest - 8848m - in one go on the same hill. You keep repeating the climb, up and down, as many times and for as long as it takes until you've reached the height of Everest. I estimate it will take 63 reps and up to 18 hours and I'll complete 221km along the way.

My thanks go out to my friends and family supporting me on the day by giving me hydration, food and encouragement with some even riding with me for a few laps.
Donation Double Matching by Edrington
Edrington's Giving More policy double matches employee fund raising, so every £10 donated by you becomes £30 for the charity. I'd be remiss not to point out that this will be further enhanced by gift aid from HMRC, and that some donors are entitled to tax relief too!
The chosen charities
The charities I've chosen support children and adults living with congenital heart defects, who may have had complex heart surgery and wear a scar on their chest. The charities provide medical and practical support with the challenges faced, whether physiical or mental, as well as campaining for improved care and increased awareness of the condition.
The charities are
The Scottish Association for Children With Heart Disorders. (SC035499) - this charity advances publc education and awareness and relieves the distress and suffering of children and young adults and their families with a congenital heart condition.

The Sommerville Foundation (SC049673) - founded by Dr Jane Sommerville, the cardiologist selected to be present at Britain's first heart transplant 50 years ago, it provides support to Heal Hearts in Scotland and throughout the UK

A bit about me..
Mother of three teenagers, living in Glasgow, many of you will know me as a very enthusiastic cyclist. I have a little experience in endurance ridng and hill climb events, but generally just love riding for fun with friends in our beautiful countryside. I also support the sport of cycling by volunteering as a non-exec director of Scottish Cycling.
My ask of you..
I've been training for this event under lockdown. A couple of weeks ago I did some reps on the hill - it was insanely tough - like giving birth I thought!.... so knowing that on 11 July I am raising money with every metre of ascent will help me push on through the 8848m to the summit.
