Yom Kippur Appeal 5782

Yom Kippur Appeal 5782

Why we need your help

Each year The Ark Synagogue makes an appeal on behalf of member-nominated charities in three categories: International Jewish charity, UK-based Jewish charity and local charity.

Details of our charities are included below; they include three selected external specified charities and the Rabbis’ Discretionary Fund. The latter is used to support urgent charitable causes as they arise, and it has been able to do so very effectively over the past year.

All three external charities were nominated by The Ark Synagogue members and you can read more about these charities in the November/December edition of Davar.

Please read the notes at the foot of this page about allocation of your donation.

International Jewish Charity - Beit Issie Shapiro

Nominated by Vanessa Lawrence-French

Beit Issie Shapiro is Israel’s leading developer and provider of innovative therapies and state-of-the-art services for children and adults across the entire range of disabilities, impacting on over half a million people annually.

UK Jewish Charity - Jami

Nominated by Sharon Goldstein

Jami is the specialist provider of mental health services in the Jewish community.

They understand that everyone’s experience of mental illness is different. They provide practical and emotional support for everyone affected by a mental health problem, the person with the diagnosis, friend, relative or employer.

UK non-Jewish Charity - Cure Parkinson's

Nominated by Paul Kustow

Cure Parkinson’s are here for the cure. Everything they do is to move us closer to that goal. But they can’t do it without you. Your donations and your involvement in research will lead to the breakthrough we all want to see.

Curing Parkinson’s needs world-class collaborative science involving researchers, clinicians, the pharmaceutical industry and, most importantly, people who are living with Parkinson’s. This collaboration is at the heart of their research programme.

Rabbis' Discretionary Fund

As is the long-standing tradition, part of the proceeds of the Appeal will be used for the Rabbis’ Discretionary Fund. The fund allows the Rabbis to support our own members as well as identify charities and causes that require urgent support during the year.

The money raised through last year’s Yom Kippur Appeal was donated to two local hospices that were facing financial pressures and to the Israel Religious Action Centre to support its important work of defending the rights of Liberal Jews worldwide through legal action in Israel.

Your donation, together with the Gift Aid, will be split equally between the four causes.

If you prefer to donate to a single charity, please contact and we will be happy to provide details of how to do this.

This campaign is now closed, and no longer accepting donations.
