Why we need your help
We first met little Prisca at our 2015 Medical Camp in western Kenya. At 6 years old she had spent all her young life struggling with debilitating poor health because of a serious heart defect since birth. The family are extremely poor living in a rural community with poor access to services. It took us a while to get her the surgical treatment she needed but after 2 years another amazing UK charity: Chain of Hope gave her the major heart surgery she needed at their specialist heart centre in Aswan. We met Prisca again in March 2019 when she was so much improved and enjoying life as a young schoolgirl should.
Unfortunately in October she contracted pulmonary TB with pneumonia. After some weeks in intensive care in Nairobi she was transferred to Kenyatta Public Hospital for treatment of her TB. Just before Christmas Prisca’s condition deteriorated and she sadly died on the morning of 14th January. We are all heartbroken and saddened by the loss of this young life.
As if this was not enough for the family there is now a hospital bill (healthcare is not free in Kenya) and other costs such as postmortem and mortuary fees and funeral costs amounting to nearly £ 5,000. Patchworking Against Poverty now has only enough funds left to pay a small part of this. If you are able to donate anything, no matter how small this will help us help this bereaved family as they come to terms with their sad loss.
Thankyou for your generosity.
PS don't forget to tick the gift aid box too so that we can claim another 25% from HMRC for Patchworking Against Poverty.
