Christmas Appeal for Healing Paws Animal

Why we need your help

Healing Paws Christmas Appeal

This year has been particularly hard on everyone.  As a small rescue on the island of Zakynthos we have been particularly hard hit due to the lack of tourists and fundraising  events, which would normally take place during the summer months.

We were also hit by a hurricane which did substantial damage and we thank all our supporters for all their support and donations at that time, which enabled us to make emergency repairs for the dogs and pups already in our care .

Sadly with the storms and rain comes the parvo and it seems every poor soul that has been rescued of late has been affected. The rescuers are exhausted mentally and physically as they literally fight to save every precious  life.  For Sue and Tracey there are no words to describe their dedication to these poor souls !

Parvo is EVIL. It affects the young and destroys their intestines. These poor puppies have already had to face so much in their young lives before parvo even strikes. Most have severe worm infestations as the poor mother dog has not been taken care of properly by the so called owners. If the pups are lucky they are old enough to be weaned when they are dumped. If not the foster carers have to bottle feed every 3/4 hours which is time consuming and extremely tiring.  Puppies when they are so young and literally dragged away from their mother have very little chance of surviving despite the rescuers best efforts.

THEN Parvo strikes and it takes no prisoners. The foster carers will tell you it's hell on earth. The smell that comes with parvo is one you can NEVER forget and the poor defenceless little bodies struggle to take every breath.  They do not want to eat, or wag their tails. They dehydrate at alarming rates through sickness and diarrhoea which is constant.  Even the vaccinated ones can be at risk. Indeed some who have had their first vaccine have sadly passed away.

The vast majority of the puppies spend time at the vets on drips. There is the lucky few who make it get to go home. Sadly the majority succumb to this evil virus.

The cost of vet care as you can imagine is phenomena,  but whilst there is a chance these poor souls can survive and have the chance of a happy ever after the rescuers fight.

Sue is supported by her children and Tracey by her husband Alan. Their souls are scared forever as they have to hold the tiny bodies whilst they take their last breath. They then bring them home to bury them.

Please consider donating the cost of a coffee to us this Christmas, to us to help them. If you are not sending Christmas cards you may like to donate to us instead the cost you would normally have spent.

You can donate of course to our charity bank account and our PayPal should you prefer but Virgin give the opportunity to donate by debit or credit card as an alternative. Every donation not matter how small is so very much appreciated.

Sue asked me to put a Christmas Appeal together so on behalf of Sue and Healing Paws Animal Rescue thank you for reading.

Please say safe everyone
