MMF Bike to Malawi 2021

Why we need your help

In 1921, 100 years ago, Jack and Mamie Martin set off from Scotland to go to Malawi where they would live as missionaries. In this centenary year, we recreated that journey by pooling our individual cycling distances. The 1921 journey took two months and this project was open for two months, 3rd June - 3rd August 2021.

The idea is to ride in your own locality, covering any distance you wish.
You would then log those miles on our webpage,
contributing to the target of 10,679 miles or 17,186 Kms
The Mamie Martin Fund was established in 1993 by the family and friends of Mamie Martin, to advance the education of girls in secondary school in North Malawi.  We currently pay the fees of, and support, 139 girls across six schools, including seven girls at a school for Deaf children in Embangweni. We work with the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, Mchengautuba Community Day Secondary School in Mzuzu and with the RC Diocese of Karonga.
MMF is managed by a Board of Trustees, one of whom is Malawian and lives there. At least one MMF Trustee visits our schools each year as part of our governance and our work is managed and overseen in Malawi by Mercy Sibande.

Riders of all ages and fitness levels cycled any distance they wished in as many trips as they wished. They logged those miles on our webpage, contributing to the overall target of 10,679 miles or 17,186 Kms. We even managed a victory lap of Lake Malawi once we got to Bandawe, the Malawian home of Mamie and Jack Martin.
