2021 Glasgow Legal Walk
Why we need your help
is a 5km sponsored walk around Glasgow city centre, which includes some of the most scenic and green spots the city has to offer. The money raised will fund vital local advice services across Scotland, which provide legal advice on issues such as debt, housing, family law, domestic abuse and employment to those who cannot afford it.
This annual event will see participants from local law firms, chambers and in-house legal teams, as well as those who have a passion for access to justice, come together with local judges and members of the community to walk 5km and raise funds for front-line legal advice services across the region. In 2019 the Glasgow Legal Walk raised over £2,000 for advice services, but in 2020 the majority of Legal Walks had to be postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The 2021 Glasgow Legal Walk will return to the usual in-person format - government guidelines permitting - with walks taking place in cities across the UK.
The Glasgow Legal Walk returns at a critical time for Scotland’s specialist legal advice sector, which has been greatly impacted by the pandemic. Many advice services have reported an unprecedented surge in demand from clients in desperate need of advice in areas such as debt, welfare, immigration, family, housing and employment law. Other services are lacking sufficient staffing and resources to deal with the level of enquiries, and severe financial problems could lead to their permanent closure.
We are encouraging as many teams as possible to take part in the Glasgow Legal Walk this year to help raise awareness and much needed funds for the free legal advice sector. These services provide essential help to vulnerable people in the community who often have no other means of getting legal advice, representation, or support.

Following an unsuccessful appeal of his benefits refusal, Paul*, a 47 year-old suffering from kidney failure, arthritis and anxiety, faced the daunting prospect of representing himself at a complex hearing. His local Citizens Advice helped him prepare his submissions and attended the hearing with him, where the appropriate benefit was restored. Assistance from Citizens Advice was essential to ensure Paul received the level of benefits allowing him to live with dignity.
