The B.K.L. Walawalkar Hospital was established in 1977 by a Public Charitable Trust – Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust. The hospital is located at Dervan – in the backward region called Konkan on the west coast of India. The hospital started as an A&E centre initially as a call of that hour during the time. However, it went on adding one department after the another and now it is a 650-bed hospital having multi-disciplinary health services offered by different departments such as Surgical, Medicine, Paediatric, Diagnostics and so on. It also offers variety of speciality services such as Cath Lab & Cardiac theatre, Onco care, Joint/Spine surgeries, Physiotherapy, Emergency to name the few. The hospital also has research facilities working on various medical research projects. After the advance of Covid during 2020, the hospital has recently added Virology Research & Diagnostic Laboratory for research into faster diagnosis of diseases like Covid. Our Appeal: The current second of wave of Covid-19 has hit India extremely hard. You must have seen or heard the news about the tremendous pressure on the health infrastructure in India. The Walawalkar hospital is not an exception. They have earmarked 100 beds for Covid related patients, but there is a need to admit more Covid patients. The hospital doesn’t want to impact adversely their other health services for priority surgeries and care. This sudden surge in the demand for Covid related medical support will require additional infrastructure in terms of beds, medical equipment and even an Oxygen generation plant. Please refer to below links:
The hospital plans to build additional infrastructure over and above what is provided in the above information.
