Minds Matter - Teenage Mental Health

Why we need your help

Minds Matter - Teenage Mental Health Campaign

Supported by the Mental Health Foundation, two teenagers wanted better provision in schools to tackle the rise in teenage mental health conditions. Sophia who lived with anorexia and Amber who helped her through it, have been the catalyst for our ground-breaking teenage mental health campaign, Minds Matter. Their experience has led to the development of an peer to peer approach, created by young people for young people. It has been estimated that around 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age. We envisage our Minds Matter campaign to be a crucial first step in addressing this problem nationwide.

Project Overview

This project takes place in the context of a wider crisis in teenage mental health, with 1 in 10 young people having a clinically diagnosable mental health problem. By creating a peer to peer approach incorporating a co-produced curriculum, the Mental Health Foundation aims to ensure that children are taught about positive mental health in a controlled and safe environment. Importantly, they will be taught by their peers ensuring that issues such as eating disorders, depression and anxiety are understood in a language conveyed by young people, for young people.  By providing strong safeguards for all young people involved, the Mental Health Foundation aims to develop their understanding of good mental health and most importantly, how to maintain it.

The Next Step

In order to provide the pilot programme in 6 schools we require £55,000 in funding, with £300,000 needed for a full roll out. The feedback from students, teachers and schools alike has been immensely positive. Now is the time to take action! Please give generously.
