Harry's On the Road to London

Why we need your help

In September of this year I will be embarking on my biggest venture yet by relocating to London and starting my studies in classical trumpet at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance.
Despite receiving the maximum funding (loan) possible, financing the “extras” in order to benefit from this opportunity of studying at Trinity has left me somewhat bewildered. Not only do I need to contribute to my accommodation and daily living but need to fund a range of assistive equipment, instruments and accessories.
What‘s the story?
I established my love for music at just aged three and have spent many years playing in bands of all kinds. I have played at events from charity functions to weddings, to festivals and even the Royal Albert Hall.
For the past five years I have worked across the creative arts department at Victoria Education Centre where I studied from age 3-16. More recently I started freelance work as a brass tutor, session player and musical director.
Through my work both in the school and local music scene I always encourage people to give anything a try, irrelevant of disability or background - I really do believe you can achieve anything you want in life, you just have to believe in yourself and go for it!
Having undertaken a couple of “road trips” up to London to familiarise myself with the surrounding area it became clear that driving to and from Trinity is not always going to be the best option - it’s actually quicker to walk (or in my case wheel!) Obviously this for me will be difficult what with wheeling myself and trying to carry the several instruments that I need.
On with my thinking cap…and my searches find a “Rio Firefly”. This is a wheel with handles bars and a battery which attaches to my wheelchair converting into a 3 wheeled electric chair - perfect for the short trip to and from Trinity.  On with the thinking cap again as to how I am going to carry all my instruments. More searches and I find a case that will carry 5, yes 5, of my instruments and will either fit on my lap or my back. Sorted! Well kind of....
With my ongoing work as a session player and musical director, I rely heavily on a Macbook to assist me in composing and recording music - Sadly my Macbook is of an old age and has now become VERY slow and so I am in desperate need of a new one to meet my needs.
Unfortunately the cost of these items alongside other living and equipment costs is as you can imagine, way out of my financial reach.
After years of supporting charities through music, I am now asking for your support to help me on the road to London! In return for your support I will send you a termly newsletter, keeping you up to date with all of my news - Just make sure you leave your email address!
If you would like to check out the kind of work I do or find out more about my music background then please visit my site:
I have also arranged a musical fundraiser at The Electric Club, Bournemouth on august 5th. Details & tickets can be purchased here
