Welcome to the 2016 Coeur Blanc fundraising page! The event takes place on March 12th in Méribel, the perfect setting to stage this one-of-a-kind snowsports challenge. Completing the Coeur Blanc is truly a marathon on skis (around 95km in one day / or the equivalent of almost 2 Everest’s in vertical drop!) and is not for the faint hearted, it requires determination and dedication. However the time and effort each skier gives to the event is 100% worth it: In 2014 the event raised an amazing £400,000 for charity.
Youth charity Snow-Camp were delighted to have got through a tough selection process to become this year’s beneficiary charity. Snow-Camp are the UK’s only registered charity using a combination of snowsports, life skills and employment training to support inner-city young people - taking them from absolute beginner to qualified snowsports instructor and into employment over one life-changing year.
Coeur Blanc’s support for Snow-Camp has come at the perfect time in the charities development. 13 years after being established in 2003, Snow-Camp has now grown to a point where the charity is aiming to expand programmes nationally across 5 UK cities over the coming 3 years, as part of its 5NOW campaign. Coeur Blanc’s support would be so significant that it would enable the launch of Snow-Camp programmes in 3 of these 5 cities, supporting 2,150 new inner-city young people and providing the financial platform to drive forward the entire 5NOW Expansion Plan.
The Snow-Camp team are greatly looking forward to the event and Snow Camp’s patrons and supporters, including Olympic bronze medallist Jenny Jones, British Olympic skiers and BBC presenters Chemmy Alcott and Graham Bell, international freeskier Warren Smith, and Britain's fastest snowboarder Jamie Barrow are all stepping up to take part.
Televeision presenter Melinda Messenger and former British rower and five times Olympic gold medalist Sir Steve Redgrave, have also signed up to the event and will be raising money for Snow-Camp's work with inner-city young people.
As always, teams will need to complete a full journey on every lift within the valley during the course of a single day. Each team consists of between 4 and 6 skiers / snowboarders and can include one professional guide. The teams choose their own routes, but which ever order they select it will require skiing a descent of over 15,000 metres.
On behalf of the Coeur Blanc Team, and everyone at Snow-Camp, thank you so much for your support, which will have a truly transformational impact on Snow-Camps work with inner –city young people.
