WWTW Marathon Des Sables 2016
Why we need your help
The Marathon des Sables, or MdS, is said to be the as the toughest footrace on earth by the Discovery Channel. Competitors have to take six marathons in six days across the Sahara desert, covering over 250km, in temperatures rising to 50oC. Day 4 is the feared ‘Double Day’ when competitors run non-stop for two marathons across the dunes. The rules require you to be self-sufficient, to carry with you on your back everything except water that you need to survive.
All funds raised by the endeavours of the MdS team will be allocated to our Head Start programme. Head Start is Walking With The Wounded’s programme providing ex-servicemen and women who experience mental heath difficulties with a military front door to access effective and evidence based therapeutic support. The programme works in collaboration with the NHS and other charities to complement the existing provision. Our aim is to raise at least £175,000. Please do support our intrepid and brave runners.
