Simpsons Family Room

Why we need your help

SiMBA are currently working on a Family Room project within Simpsons in the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. For this project we have been listening to parents who have spent time in a normal hospital setting after the loss of their baby and this bespoke room will be in a quieter area and fully refitted, soundproofing on adjoining walls, decorated and furnished. The room will allow parents and their family and friends (if they choose) to spend time with baby in a homely setting before having to say goodbye.

SiMBA would like to say a huge thank you to Helen and Charlie Pank who have raised an incredible £10,350 (including Gift Aid) in memory of their son, Bertie.  They have very kindly donated this money to the Simpsons Family Room Project so we asked Helen and Charlie to write a few words about their donation:

"We raised this money in memory of our son Bertie, so that other bereaved parents wouldn't have to go through what we did when he was born.  Bertie was born at the RIE in May 2013, and although the care we received from the midwives was excellent, sadly the facilities at the hospital for bereaved parents were severly lacking.  It was heartbreakingly awful to be in the labour ward, surrounded by the sights and sounds of happy families, when we knew our baby wouldn't be coming home with us.  At the time, so many people said they wanted to do something to help, but there was very little they could do to make it better.  Then we thought about raising money to improve the facilities at the hospital.  Amazingly, we didn't have to organise any bake sales or sponsored events.  Instead, our friends, family, employers and even people we'd never met before simply responded to our request for help and overwhelmed us with their generousity and support.  We raised more than £10,000 in two months.  We can't thank all those people enough.  Their donations and the refurbished room will make a huge difference to families in their darkest days.  Good luck with the rest of the fundraising, Helen and Charlie Pank"

Another fundraiser SiMBA would like to thank is Gayle Boyle who has raised a fantastic £4,365.88 (including Gift Aid) in memory of her son, Callum Harry Boyle.  Gayle has organised many fundraising activites including a Coffee Morning, 5k Run and her most recent, Tandem Skydive (along with Louise Pettigrew) to name a few.  We would like to thank Gayle for donating the money raised from her fundraising activities to the Simpsons Family Room Project.

SiMBA would like to thank their newest patron, Dr Gillian Smith and her husband Roy for choosing SiMBA to be the beneficiary to receive the donations from their joint Birthday Party.  Gillian and Roy asked guests to donate money to the charity instead of giving gifts and they raised £670.00.  We would like to thank Gillian and Roy for this wonderful gesture and to all those who donated.

We would like to thank Nicky and Brian Grieve who have raised a very generous £7,413.42 through a number of fundraising events in memory of their son, Rio Grieve.

"On 23rd May 2012, we thought our world had come to an end when our precious son Rio was born sleeping.  At that time we recieved immediate support from SiMBA in the form of a Memory Box, in which we could store treasured memories of our son.  We would like bereaved parents like ourselves to continue to recieve this support in the future and would like to create a legacy in Rio's name, so that his memory lives on.  We wanted to do something special in Rio's name and think the Family Room project is such a great idea.  This will allow families to have private time with their babies as they adjust to the enormity of the situation they find themselves in.  It is so important to the grieving process, as parents struggle to come to terms with their loss, they can be away from the normal maternity facilities.  Hvaing private time as a family helps build precious memories that will last a lifetime and we are delighted to be able to contribute on behalf of Rio."

Another fundraiser SiMBA would like to thank is Yvonne White who has raised £815.00 in memory of her sons Kyle and Cameron White for the Simpsons Family Room Project.  Yvonne has been a great supporter of SiMBA and we are very grateful for her continued support of the charity.
