Vicky on the Wast: Lake Victoria

160 miles, two days, and nobody left the UK!

The Vicky on the Wast took place on the, weekend of the 25th – 28th May. The challenge was to cover the equivalent of the diameter of Lake Victoria in Tanzania, a distance of 160 miles, as many times as possible, by any means, without leaving the UK.

1 Vicky = 160 miles,  held in, on and around Wast Water, the deepest and coldest of the Lakes in the Lake District.

A total of 28 adults, 8 children and 2 toddlers took part, (plus 5 dogs) covering the amazing total of 656 miles, in other words, 4.1 Vickys!

A few statistics:

  • 10 adults and 3 children (14, 7 and 6) climbed Scafell Pike
  • 5 people (4 women, 1 man) swam the length of the Lake (3 miles)
  • 1 man ran a half-marathon post-swim!
  • 8 people circumnavigated the Lake in kayaks
  • 1 person cycled 120 miles in 1 day
  • 2 cycled 130 miles in 2 days on electric bikes
  • 11 others walked various long distances, 2 carrying toddlers, 8 children walked long distances, and 2 swam as well
  • 5 dogs walked, ran and climbed untold miles - sadly we can?t add that into the total!

The four Vicky Victualers, assisted by three spouses, cooked soup in industrial quantities for two hot lunches, produced mountains of cake and fed 24 for supper on Saturday night. Some of them managed to walk as well!

Whatever the activity undertaken by the particpants to contribute to the weekend, it was accompanied by much laughter and good fellowship.

Thanks to everyone who took part and thank you to you for supporting us.
