World AIDS Day Appeal 2017

This campaign is now closed, and no longer accepting donations.

On World AIDS Day, Andrew will be singing in Waverley Care’s choir, something he would never have thought possible 6 months ago

This World AIDS Day, I’m inviting you to be part of Andrew’s story, by making a donation towards the vital work that has sustained him through some really tough times.

When Andrew sings with the Tartan Ribbon Community choir today, he will be part of a global day which retains huge significance. World AIDS Day allows us to remember and mark the lives of those who lost the fight against AIDS. But it also provides the opportunity to celebrate progress – in HIV treatment and in prevention.

Andrew’s appearance with the choir at this event is a huge achievement for him personally. Earlier this year, his sister died unexpectedly. She was the only person that Andrew felt able to confide in about his HIV, and her death left him devastated and desperately isolated.

We offered Andrew a stay at Milestone, our residential unit, to help him with his bereavement, ensure he was taking care of himself and simply to be alongside him at a really difficult time.

While he was there, the Tartan Ribbon Community Choir was meeting and Andrew was persuaded to give it a try. The infectious enthusiasm of the musical director, the warmth of the other singers and the sheer joy of making music saw Andrew letting down his guard and joining in. He has been a regular attender ever since.

This is just one small aspect of the extensive support which Andrew has received from Waverley Care, support which simply isn’t possible without the financial assistance of people like you.

A donation of £20 covers the costs of an hour’s one-to-one support for someone like Andrew. A donation of £100 will help us to continue to be alongside more people like Andrew when they are at their most vulnerable, responding to each according to need.

Thank you.
