On Saturday 8 December, colleagues from across CYBG and Virgin Money will be joining thousands of others sleeping out for Social Bite’s Sleep in the Park 2018.

CYBG were proud to support this initiative in 2017, and to be able to write a cheque for £500,000, which has helped fund major projects in the fight against homelessness. David Duffy, CEO, visited the Social Bite village in Edinburgh with Josh Littlejohn of Social Bite, to see first-hand how our fundraising has made a difference.

Despite it being the coldest night of the year, colleagues came away inspired by last year’s event and we are delighted to be taking part again this year’s even bigger effort. Sleep in the Park 2018 continues its aim to eradicate homelessness by providing people with housing, rehabilitation, job opportunities and the support they need to get back on their feet.

The statistics of homelessness in Scotland are not insurmountable, and through our participation in this event, we can help by raising funds and awareness of the issue.

Chief Executive, David Duffy said 'Homelessness is something that each of us walk past every day and rough sleeping simply shouldn’t be a thing that society allows to happen in the 21st century. Social Bite are making great strides towards eradicating homelessness in Scotland and the money that CYBG raised last year has been spent on a great Housing First project that I recently visited. This year will be bigger than ever before - both for Social bite with four cities sleeping out instead of one and for CYBG which has come together with Virgin Money to lend our combined support. Please get involved by fundraising or donating generously – we can make a difference together.’ '

Any donation you can make will mean so much to everyone taking part and will make a huge difference. Thank you. £500,000 can:

1) Support the full-service support of the Social Bite Village for over 3 years, providing a safe and supported environment for 20 longterm homeless sufferers to be brought back into society with job opportunities, skills and qualifications training and a planned transition into long-term mainstream tenancies. £150k p/a cost.

2) Provide 50 people with a "Housing First" support of a chronic homelessness sufferer into a mainstream tenancy for a year with a dedicated support team to ensure the success and long-term sustainability beyond year 1. Cost £10k p/a

3) c.10 houses built in a Social Bite Village project to provide 20 homeless people with a safe, secure and welcoming home.
