Why we need your help

Our dear friend and sterling supporter Martin Rawstorne passed away peacefully in May 2018 with his family around him.

Martin helped set up The Comedy School and was a director from its inception in 1998. A lover of comedy and laughter, he was a hugely positive advocate for us - our aims and aspirations and the projects we developed.

His dedicated approach inspiring others, in 2006 Martin helped set up The Comedy School Charitable Trust to provide additional support to those most in need. Martin was especially keen on our work helping individuals improve their confidence and communication skills in the criminal justice system.

Friendly, approachable and open, Martin championed the underdog and tried to help others improve themselves. As a solicitor and partner at a legal firm, his skills were invaluable and he imparted his knowledge and information in order to open doors for those with very few opportunities.

We are immensely grateful for all Martin did for The Comedy School and to his family in setting up this bursary in his memory.

We envisage this bursary going to help those who, for example, may have been introduced to the work of The Comedy School in a young offenders unit or through a school or mental health drop-in or through another route and who would benefit enormously from continuing contact and support , but who is unable to afford the fee. The bursary will fund scholarships for the most disadvantaged, allowing them to access our courses and help them to aim high and succeed in their aspirations.

We are grateful to all supporters and friends of Martin and The Comedy School. If you would like to support Martin’s generous legacy, please donate here.
