HOdyssey Turns 20
Why we need your help
Odyssey turns 20 years old in 2019.
Odyssey, Hijinx's community theatre company, is based in Cardiff and brings together people with and without disabilities to create theatre.
We call it inclusive theatre - because all members of the group are equals, contributing ideas and suggestions equally, and producing accessible theatre for family audiences.
Odyssey relies heavily on the fundraising efforts of its members to both rehearse in the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay and have a regular slot in the Wales Millennium Centre at Christmas. The group, along with a team of creative professionals to elevate their work, demonstrate a wealth of talent that exists in the learning disabled and autistic communities in Cardiff.
Odyssey have generously been allocated a free place in the Virgin Money London Marathon in 2019 by the brilliant team of the Virgin Money Lounge Cardiff. Head of Participation, and Odyssey Director, Jon Dafydd-Kidd has agreed to don his running shoes and undertake the enormous task, and the rare challenge to complete the course.
Each member of the group is tasked annually to create, and complete a fundraising challenge. The rules are simple;- We cannot ask other members of Odyssey for sponsorship - we want to shout about what we do.
- Have a go! The ammount is secondary to the learning from challenging yourself to achieve something.
- Have fun!
The fundraising also supports the group to work with local specials schools who perform in the Wales Millennium Centre, and to collaborate with the Creative and Therapeutic Arts: Design course at the University of South Wales. The students produce meaningful input for the performances and a month long exhibition in the Wales Millennium Centre accompanies their project.
Please support Odyssey by supporting Jon running the Virgin Money London Marathon – every penny will make a difference in the lives of people with learning disabilities. #HOdysseyturns20
