TEAM GC Kilimanjaro for the MPT 2019

Why we need your help

Team GC Kilimanjaro are a group of crazy girls hoping to inspire others to push their boundaries by sharing an adventure to the rooftop of Africa in October 2019. Many of us have chosen to support the Murray Parish Trust - a local charity which is very close to our hearts - to give us an extra reason to keep pushing on to the peak.

The Murray Parish Trust raise funds to advance paediatric emergency medicine, ensuring that children affected by major trauma have the chance to receive the best possible care.  The charity was set up by the actors Sarah Parish and James Murray, in memory of their late daughter Ella-Jayne, who died from congenital heart failure in 2009. To date, the Murray Parish Trust has helped raise over £2.5 million for University Hospital Southampton, which serves as the major trauma centre for nine counties and islands across the South of England.  This includes funding for a brand new Children's Emergency and Trauma Unit, new bed bays for the PICU, counselling support, and a specialist helicopter gurney to help transport critically ill children via the Air Ambulance Service.

The Murray Parish Trust’s latest challenge is to raise £5.5 million to fund a revolutionary intra-operative MRI (iMRI) Suite at Southampton Children’s Hospital. Taking images of the brain using intra-operative MRI technology during surgery will make a dramatic difference for children with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions including tumours, hydrocephalus, epilepsy and trauma. These real-time images give the surgeon a greater chance of totally removing the tumour in that first operation. The accuracy and precision of the technology greatly reduces the chances of damaging healthy tissue during surgery and, crucially, prevents a child from being sedated for longer than needed.  The iMRI Suite will make the hospital a next generation centre for paediatric neurosurgery and pioneering research, which will advance the treatment and care of children across the region and beyond.  You can watch the full campaign video and find out more at:

Thanks so much from all of us and the Murray Parish Trust for your support - you're keeping us going strong, and you're making a real difference to the care and treatment of children across the South!
