Reforestation of Praslin and Curieuse

Reforestation of Praslin and Curieuse

Why we need your help

A number of areas on Curieuse & Praslin Island that suffer from problematic deforestation, which leads to degradation of local habitats and environments. Working with Terrestrial Restoration Action Society Seychelles (TRASS), it is this environmental problem that we work very hard to counteract.

There are areas of Curieuse and neighbouring Praslin Island which unfortunately suffer from problematic deforestation in certain areas, degrading local habitats and environments, and contibuting to significant soil erosion.

GVI Curieuse contibutes to the solution by firstly providing significant manpower each month to assist with maintaining the TRASS plant nursery on Praslin, and to transport and plant saplings on degraded mountain tops or mangroves on Curieuse and Praslin. We also conduct fundraising events to raise capital for the purchase of equipment and supplies, construction of nursery facilities, or other operational expenses of TRASS.

Long-Term Impact

TRASS continues to make clear progress in the reforestation of degraded areas of Curieuse and Praslin. This contributes to the reduction of soil erosion, impacts on native species and degradation of habitat, and makes a significant contribution to combatting climate change.
