Mental Health

Why we need your help

Our mental health fund is an innovative local giving programme set up to provide much needed mental health resources for young people in the East End.  The East End has a relatively young population with more adults aged 25-45 and fewer people aged over 65 than the England average.

EECF's mental health fund is increasing preventative support and promoting positive mental well-being.

Councillor Tom Rahilly, Hackney Council’s Mental Health Champion said, “Early prevention and intervention are key, we know that many mental health difficulties start early in people’s lives and can develop into more serious illnesses, if left without support”.

The most common mental health issue facing people in Hackney is depression. Hackney has one of the highest rates of diagnosed depression of any London borough with 9.6% of the population diagnosed, compared to 7% across other London boroughs.
