What is 40 for 40?

To celebrate 40 years of South West Coast Path, the UK’s longest and most iconic National Trail, the South West Coast Path Association are aiming to raise £40,000 to protect its future.

Between May and October 2018, people from all walks of life are coming together to support the Path that they love, whether that means making a personal donation or hosting a fundraiser in their local community, it all makes a huge difference. Together, we know we can reach our target for the Path.

Why support 40 for 40 and the South West Coast Path Association?

9 million people every year use the South West Coast Path to experience nature and adventure, as well as support their mental and physical well-being. We want everyone to be able to reap the benefits of the Path, now, in another 40 years, and forever.

Due to ever increasing pressure on budgets, as a charity and champion for the National Trail, we must raise ever more for the Path. Add to that increasingly extreme weather battering the coast, brought about by climate change; erosion caused by the growing number of feet on the Path; the finite lifespan of essential infrastructure like bridges, way-markers and steps, and you can see why it costs £1000 per mile per year, just to keep the 630-mile trail open.

Why do we need your help?

The South West Coast Path benefits the lives of millions of people, but the charity work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure it is a world-class trail, is little known. We need the support of Path-loving ambassadors with a large following to back 40 for 40 and spread the word about what we want to achieve.

How to get involved

Start helping right now by spreading the word! Tell friends, family and colleagues about what we’re trying to do and ask them to get involved too. The more people that help, the easier it will be to reach our total. You can make a donation to the 40 for 40 campaign, support our steps appeal that aims to replace 1,000 wooden this summer or choose to fundraise with a sponsored walk, run or group activity. You could even arrange to run a coffee morning fundraiser in one of the many villages, towns and cities that the South West Coast Path runs through. We will be tracking donations with a fundraising barometer, which will be shared on our social channels, so you can follow our progress.
