We are delighted that Action Foundation has secured 14 places at this year’s Great North Run on Sunday 9th September 2018!

We have also been chosen by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle as one of his two charities that he is supporting this year!

All money raised will go towards our 4 projects supporting vulnerable refugees, asylum seekers and migrants living in Tyne and Wear.

Action Language provides free, weekly ‘Skills for Life’ English classes and employability mentoring in Newcastle and Sunderland to those unable to access mainstream provision. This can be for reasons including immigration status, lack of capacity / flexibility at local colleges or lack of confidence to attend classes in a formal learning environment. Over the past 12 months we enrolled over 1,000 learners of over 50 nationalities including Syrian, Eritrean and Iraqi.

“Before Action Language I could not go to the shops and doctors alone and I had to take my friend but now I can always go alone” (Action Language beneficiary)

Action Letting provides supported, affordable accommodation to newly granted refugees at risk of homelessness. During weekly one-to-one support meetings residents are supported to integrate, access basic services, improve their stability and increase their independence. Since 2012 we have supported 155 refugees through this project and currently have the capacity to accommodation 43 across 11 properties in Tyne and Wear. With our support 97% of residents have moved-on positively to independent accommodation.

“Action Foundation has not only given me accommodation but also a family. It gives me feelings of always having support. Action Foundation is always available to help.” (Action Letting resident)

Action Housing provides supported accommodation to destitute asylum seekers with no recourse to public funds. We are the only organisation in Tyne and Wear specifically set up to provide accommodation to his extremely vulnerable group. Residents receive regular support to engage with their community, access English classes and resubmit asylum claims.

Action Hosting provides an alternative form of accommodation for this vulnerable group. Volunteer hosts offering a spare room in their home provide short-term placements for destitute asylum seekers. To date this scheme has provided over 2,500 nights of accommodation to 10 destitute asylum seekers (guests) who have no other accommodation options available to them. We have trained 42 volunteer hosts and are actively seeking more!

“Now I feel I am living like normal. Before I was surviving, now I am living” (Action Hosting resident)
