European Floods Appeal
Why we need your help
Mid-July some of the worst flooding in decades, caused by record rainfall, has killed at least 100 people in western Germany, 20 in Belgium and the Netherlands has also been badly affected.
In help and support of our neighbours and friends the Rotary Great Britain and Ireland Disaster Recovery Trust has decided to launch this European Flood appeal.
Contributions received will help affected communities in Europe once the waters have rescinded.
The Trust works with Rotary clubs and their volunteers by providing funds for long term, sustainable projects that will help those communities to fight or even prevent floods in the future.
The trust is not providing emergency help immediately, as governments have promised help and there are a great number of charities already set up to do so, but it’s there to help fund those that offer solutions once the immediate need has been met.
Projects supported in the past have been the refurbishment of community centres after a flood or providing simple flood defence systems.By donating, you are happy that a 2% administration fee will be deducted from your donation to support the trust (in addition to online charges) and that, in the unlikely event that no suitable project for the area could be found or the government in the area declines support, the donation will be moved to the RIBI Disaster Recovery Trust General Disaster Fund after five years. More details of that fund can be found here.
