GPR - together for charity

GPR - together for charity

Why we need your help

Like all charities, this is currently a tough time for GPR with no income coming in.  In particular over the weekend of 6 and 7 June we had our annual tournament scheduled - usually the major fund raiser of the year.

We would expect to have more than 2,000 boys and girls playing at GPR over the weekend, and past years has seen visits from Geoff Hurst, Martin Keown, Martin Tyler and Alan Dowson!

The money raised over the weekend helps to keep membership fees down, whilst providing quality resources, kit, 3G training pitches, etc over the season.

As we won't be able to run the tournament this year, we are instead holding a virtual fundraiser over the weekend of 6 and 7 June.  All the boys and girls will take part in a sponsored penalty shoot out, in their back garden or local park.  Each team will be taking on the challenge of scoring at least 2020 penalties over the weekend, and we are asking them to be as creative or imaginative as possible in their penalties!

There are also a number individual challenges going on, in particular Woking FC manager Alan Dowson is running 20 laps of Goldsworth Lake - more than 12 miles in total!  Massive thanks to Dowse all those carrying out sponsored challenges - these can be viewed by clicking on "fundraisers" below.

And then please share this page with family, friends, workmates, etc for sponsorship.  All money raised will be split 50% to the club, 25% to Shooting Star Chase Children's Hospice and 25% to Halo Children's Foundation.

The Halo Children's Foundation supports children suffering from bereavement and Shooting Star Chase cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

These are two charities close to our hearts, having provided support to the wider GPR family over recent years.

Please do raise as much sponsorship as possible - if each member can raise just £20 of donations from friends, family and workmates, this would raise more than £12,000 for great causes..... and all without parents having to be on car park duty, emptying bins or manning the BBQ at the tournament!

Thanks

GPR Committee, on behalf of all the boys and girls
