Guy's Prostates Bike Ride 2016
Why we need your help
We are a team of cyclists who will be undertaking a 3 day bike ride from Land's End to Guy's Hospital, to raise money for urological cancer research at Guy's and St Thomas'.
Prostate cancer remains the commonest male cancer in the UK and the second commonest cause of male cancer death. Testicular cancer is the commonest cancer of young men whilst bladder and kidney cancer are the seventh and eighth most common cancers in the UK. They all remain a cause of significant suffering for many men and women and their families and friends.
We are aiming to raise at least £150,000 to fund life-saving research into Prostate, Bladder, Kidney and Testicular Cancer. This research is led by Dr Simon Chowdhury, who will also be leading the bike ride!
Gary Saunders' Story
In March 2012 I was diagnosed with Stage 2c testicular cancer, which was caught due to a secondary tumour announcing itself by blocking my kidney. I am indebted to Simon Chowdhury, my consultant oncologist at Guy’s, and his colleagues for their skill and excellence, which helped me to fight and survive this terrible disease twice in one year. I, my wife Lucy, my son Thomas and our wider family will be forever grateful to them.
Over a beer one evening, Simon and I formulated a plan to do something rewarding and memorable to raise funds so that more people can benefit from their life-saving research. So, in May 2016, we will be cycling from Land's End to Guy's Hospital. hopefully raising lots of money and having a great time on the way!
£150,000 would fund 3 research fellows for a year, so please give generously and help us to find life-saving treatments for more people with urological cancers.
