KICS Covid-19 Appeal
Why we need your help
The Covid Appeal was launched in 2020 in response to the effect of the global pandemic on the poorest people in Kashare sub-county, SW Uganda. By March 2021 projects had resumed and we were getting back to the new normal with social distancing etc.
But on 7 June 2021 with Covid-19 case numbers in Uganda rising steeply, schools, the government announced that churches, weekly non-food markets and public gatherings would been closed for 42 days leaving KICS projects once again suspended. A curfew was announced a few days later with a limit on movements.
In 2020 KICS delivered food, soap, a water carrier and mask to the orphans and vulnerable children it supports through its education and welfare project (RONCO). We also helped the older children by providing solar-powered radios so they could learn remotely and provided some home tutoring when this was permitted, with social distancing. We also distributed welfare parcels and seeds to the adult literacy learners and to 100 additional families which we identified as the neediest.
In 2020 we received, from all sources, £7,700 for these activities and spent £6,300 by the end of the year.
Once again, Kashare is facing uncertainty and we are ready to help. It is very early in the current crisis. We know we will have to help, but it is not yet clear how. We will update this page when we know what the needs will be. If you have any questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your donation is very much appreciated.
