‘Pedal to Plough’

London to Paris and Back

The Challenge

Six intrepid cyclists with an average age of over 60 will leave London on 13 July to ride to Paris and home again, a distance of nearly 300 miles (500Kms), in support of Let Them Shine's goal of buying a tractor.

The Centre

Let Them Shine is a small registered charity. It began building a Children’s Centre in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania in 2010 and opened its doors to children 2016. It is a non-denominational charity and the focus is very much at a grass roots level. There's more on Facebook here.

The Children

There are 38 boys and girls eating, sleeping, living and learning in the centre. Let Them Shine are also supporting 27 children who have moved on to primary school. If we didn’t there’s a serious risk that their education would come to a sudden halt. As the number of children the charity helps increases so does the need for more resources.

We have a child sponsorship scheme, giving the opportunity to have the rewarding experience of providing everything a child needs to live and learn for £20 a month, or whatever you can afford. Check it out. But to sustain a future for the children the Centre needs more.

Please take a look at the entertaining 60 second video of some of the children singing about 'Pedal to Plough', link above right.

The Money

The local economy focuses on farming. Most families own some land where they grow maize and sunflowers. Mechanisation is developing, but very slowly. There is an urgent need for a tractor and plough to relieve the enormous manual toil. We are raising money to buy a tractor and plough for the centre. Not only will this generate an excellent income it will have a significant impact on life in the wider community. The cost of a New Holland tractor & plough is about £17500 and we need your help.

All proceeds raised will go to purchase the tractor. The riders are paying all their own personal travel and subsistence expenses.

The Riders

Jane Henshaw | Paul Frost | Nick Clennett | Anthony Summersell | Erv Walter | Chris Krahling are doing the pedalling. Bee Frost and Laura Walter are providing much needed support.

The Questions

Will you please support the centre in its goal of helping themselves and the community?

Will you kindly consider supporting the riders in their endeavours by sponsoring them?

Let Them Shine and the riders thank you for your interest and support.
