This Christmas could you give a gift that will help others?

Losing a baby is one of the most devestating experiences that somebody could go through. TimeNorfolk and the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital recognise the need for a bereavement suite for families immediately after their loss. This room will provide families with a space to spend time with their baby as they create memories and say goodbye in a private and warm environment away from other newborn babies.

We know from our clients feedback that although nothing can change their situation, finding themselves in a clinical room or a ward when you have just received the devastating news that your baby has died is not ideal.

Abbie’s Story

'It was on my due date that I felt reduced movements from my baby. I went to the hospital where I was given a scan and given the news no parent wants to hear, 'my baby had died'.  When I delivered Luna-Mai my daughter, I was in the room at the end of delivery suite which was the bereavement room that they had then, it was very clinical. It was so difficult having to walk past all the normal delivery rooms to one at the end of the corridor knowing there were woman in labour with their babies.

It was extremely difficult for my family who were coming to visit me, Ryan and Luna-Mai as they were having to walk past happy families leaving with their babies. If there was a bereavement suite away from the normal delivery area it would give the family that extra peace needed at such a terrible time. When I was in the late stages of labour with Luna-Mai I heard a new born baby cry and it was just an added heartache to what I was already enduring. This suite could really make the difference for bereaved families helping them get through such a devastating time.'

We are aiming to create a space which is calming, tranquil, comfortable and private with access to things that might be needed to make this traumatic time more manageable and give bereaved parents one less thing to think about.

We are fundraising to provide soft furnishings, kitchen facilities and to contribute toward full renovations of the space.  Please do give what you are able to, this room will make a real difference to bereaved parents
