New Horizon at Christmas

Why we need your help

New Horizon Youth Centre supports thousands of homeless and at risk young people from across London every year. This winter we're proud to be partnering with Adot Foundation (who created this fantastic video for our campaign) to raise money to keep providing our vital service to those young people in need over Christmas.

With temperatures dropping it is a grim time for many of the homeless young people we support, their loneliness becoming all the more apparent, and their need for support more urgent. This winter our daycentre will be supporting hundreds of homeless young people in exactly this situation. Their attempts to build a better life are often lost in the daily struggle of finding somewhere to sleep, their many talents used solely for survival. Even with the winter shelters now open the best that most can hope for is a sofa for a night at a friend’s house.

Every year thousands of young people become homeless in London because of family breakdown, domestic abuse, poverty, gang violence, or war and persecution in their home country. But the support they need often isn’t there from local councils and statutory services. According to the London Assembly for every one person you see sleeping on the streets, there are thirteen hidden homeless many of whom are young – doing what they can to get by whilst not having somewhere to call home.

That’s why New Horizon exists. We are a vital support network for 16-21 year olds who have no one else to turn to. For 360 days of the year and right through Christmas we provide everything that young people need to create a positive future. We offer hot cooked food, showers and laundry, as well as support with legal advice, finding work and getting housed.

As many businesses close this Christmas our work becomes more pressing, ensuring that the young people we support have somewhere safe and enjoyable to spend the holidays. To do this we keep our centre open from December 24th right through to the New Year at a cost of £10,000.

We hope you have a good Christmas and with your help we can ensure that the community of young people we support have one too.
