Why we need your help

Nugent at 140 – Anniversary Appeal

This year, Nugent celebrates a significant milestone - our 140th anniversary. 140 years of care, support and education for children, adults and families across Merseyside.

Our origins date back to Victorian Liverpool and the pioneering work of Father James Nugent (1822-1905) in relation to child welfare, relief from poverty and social reform. Through his ministry, Father Nugent witnessed first-hand the impact of extreme poverty and hardship on poor families and children across Liverpool and took radical action to remedy the situation.

Nugent has come a long way since our founding. 140 years on, we continue to respond to the changing needs of those in need - providing small interventions to life changing, and sometimes lifesaving, support.

We are committed to serving children, families and adults in need across Merseyside (and beyond!) for another 140 years, but cannot do so without your support.

Please consider donating to Nugent today.

To celebrate our rich heritage and help us guarantee our future, we hope to raise at least £140,000 in unrestricted donations by the end of this financial year.

In these unprecedented times, Nugent is working hard to support the most vulnerable in our community. We can only continue to provide these services with your help.

Whether it is a one-off donation or a more regular gift, no donation is too small to make a difference, so please donate today.

Thank you. We really could not do it without you.

Can you help Nugent create a new sensory room for our lovely residents?

The coronavirus pandemic has affected all of our lives in many ways. Primarily a public health crisis and to many a personal tragedy, we have all been touched directly or indirectly by the virus. The consequences for our economy, our society and communities have been profound.

The impact of the virus has not been evenly distributed across society however. The pandemic has proved a very real and very challenging time for our adult residents across our Services – many of whom have only had limited face-to-face contact with their loved ones for well over 12 months.

We are calling for donations (small and large!) to create a new sensory and relaxation space for several of our beneficiaries who live together in a small home with specialist 24hr support provided by Nugent.

These beneficiaries live with a range of mental health needs and learning disabilities and a sensory room will provide gentle stimuli to various senses to induce a state of calm – so vitally important at this time of heightened stress and anxiety.

Sensory Rooms can help those living with learning difficulties, developmental disabilities or impairments to develop and engage their senses in a safe environment. Multi-Sensory equipment combines a range of stimuli including lights, colours, sounds, soft play objects, and aromas.

Donations to this appeal will be used to purchase a list of items which Nugent have picked out with our beneficiaries. Our aim is to raise £2500 to create a modest space that will have hugely positive impact.

Any funds secured over our target will be used to support other beneficiaries across the Nugent family.
