The Old Vic is London's independent, not-for-profit theatre, a world leader in creativity and entertainment. We are an independent charity that receives no public subsidy and we work tirelessly to raise every penny needed to keep producing shows, inspiring young people, serving our community and keeping ticket prices affordable.

2018 marks The Old Vic's bicentenary, an unparallelled opportunity to celebrate this ever-evolving 200-year-old theatre.

Founder of The Old Vic company, Lilian Baylis kept a sign above her desk with the rallying cry 'Dare, Always Dare'. In this spirit, Old Vic Bicentenary Ambassador, Bertie Carvel will be running the London Marathon for us this year to raise much needed funds for the theatre.

Bertie says:

‘The Old Vic celebrates its 200th birthday this year. It connects the grandeur and heritage of the West End with the cultural edge of the subsidised sector; but what many people don’t realise is that it belongs to neither: it is a not-for-profit organisation and receives no public money. It belongs to everyone. So when the team asked me to run the London Marathon for them, how could I refuse?’

Matthew Warchus’ mission since taking over as Artistic Director has been to reconnect this unique theatre with the communities which surround it and to make what was once a rowdy music hall thrum with the rhythm of real life and real people.

Please support this exciting work by sponsoring me. Your donation will not only spur me on throughout my training and on the big day, but will help raise vital funds to ensure the future of this important and iconic artistic powerhouse for another 200 years.'

We will use your donations to help us remain one of the most vibrant and vital theatres in the world. Thank you.
