SHUMAS 'Tippy Tap' Handwashing Stations
Why we need your help
We are urgently raising funds for SHUMAS, our partner of nearly 20 years, based in Cameroon. SHUMAS is a development and humanitarian NGO that works in the areas of women's development, education, agriculture, food security and nutrition.
Over the past four years SHUMAS has also been supporting the growing number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North West region of Cameroon due to attacks by Boko Haram in the Far North and the incursion of rebels from the Central African Republic in the East which has led to hundreds of deaths and the wanton destruction of property. The ongoing Anglophone crisis in the North West and South West regions has made the situation even worse with the further displacement of 680,000 people internally and over 50,000 people crossing the border into neighbouring Nigeria.
More than 50% of those displaced - typically the most vulnerable - are living in the bush or forest areas and sheltering in makeshift accommodation made from the most basic of materials with poor hygiene and little or no protection from the coronavirus which is sweeping the country.
In order to support SHUMAS in its task, AidCamps is raising money to provide 'Tippy Tap' Handwashing Stations to help improve handwashing and hygiene across the area, and to offer some personal protective equipment for those who otherwise would be ill equipped to protect themselves from disease and the threat of Covid-19. Each Handwashing Station will also provide approximately 100 bars of soap and 300 facemasks, along with other items to help provide a clean and safe environment.
