St Ewe 'Boost the Roost' Fundraising

Why we need your help

WE SUPPORT PANCREATIC CANCER UK; DONATING 5P FROM EVERY BOX OF BOOST THE ROOST SOLD.

Pancreatic Cancer is currently underfunded receiving only 2.1% of Cancer Research Funding, yet less than 7% of those diagnosed survive beyond five years.

We are helping Pancreatic Cancer UK raise awareness of this devastating disease, support people affected and fund cutting edge research to ensure more people survive to live long and well.

Boost the Roost Free Range Eggs;

We know that hens are fantastic animals; with an incredible absorption rate – which is why we ensure that the hens have a great feed. You are what you eat!

With this knowledge and the fact that our family carries a gene that causes acute pancreatitis, we have been on a quest to see if there is anything we could do to help reduce the impact and damage caused when the pancreas is under trauma. We learnt that researchers at the University of Liverpool are running trials that is investigating whether giving people with pancreatitis Organic Selenium (Antox®) and Magnesium (Magnesiocard®) can reduce the oxidative damage to the cells walls around the pancreas.

With this knowledge we made up a bespoke feed adding Selenium to the feed. We have found that the pancreatic attacks have lessened since eating Boost the Roost eggs.

By eating the eggs your body starts to build up a store of these essential nutrients and minerals. As selenium offers other great health benefits too;

  • Boosts your immune system
  • Antioxidant which helps protect cell walls from oxidative damage
  • Works with iodine in our bodies to help regulate the production of the thyroid hormone
  • effective at boosting our immune system
  • An important player in spermatogenesis (male fertility)
  • Helps strengthen your hair and nails

 In 2015, Alltech who are a very innovative agri-tech company came across the virtues of algae and adding this to a hen’s diet to achieve high levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their eggs. We found that feeding the hens algae not only massively increased the levels of omega-3 but there was also no taint to the egg (i.e. fish oils). Which means we can offer vegetarians a product that ensures they are still receiving high levels of DHA Omega-3. Our eggs are accredited by the Vegetarian Society.
